I spent several years as a long-term mentor for young people leaving public care, supporting their transition to independence.
This was a rethink project which provided mentoring to young people leaving local authority care.
I would support a young person for a year by mentoring them as they moved towards independence, focusing on both practical and emotional tasks. The aim was to try and ease their transition from being “looked after” to living independently.
At the end of each twelve months, I would have a new young person to mentor.
